A few decades ago, a child conceived out of wedlock was commonly referred to as a bastard. The mother of this child was treated like an outcast and at times called a whore if she gave birth. So many women had abortions, legal and illegal to cover their ‘sin.’ Others gave the baby up for adoption immediately after birth. A bastard was believed to be the ruination of a young woman’s life.
The bastard child was shunned, made fun of, and considered less than. How times have changed! Today some women prefer having children without the benefit of marriage. They’re in the headlines. We read about them and marvel at their ‘baby bumps.” Read the following link:
